Greg is out of surgery
O.K. Greg is out of surgery and in recovery. Surgery was over about 7pm, so a little shorter than expected. He will be in recovery about and hour to an hour and a half. He was already starting to wake up though when they came out and talked to Kim. The doctor said it could not have gone any better. They did have to put a plate and screws in. When they tried to move the hip to a 90 degree angle it started to dislocate so the hardware was necessary. All went very well and that is what we were hoping for. It looks like they will keep him to the end of the week. Kim and Matt are staying in Royal Oaks tonight so they can be there first thing in the morning. We should get some more info tomorrow. I know that Kim is glad her son is with her. I know that he wouldn't want to be anywhere else. He knows that his mom needs him. What a wonderful man she raised! I also know that Kim is worried about what is to come when Greg is released from the hospital. Please pray for everything to work out and for Kim to have peace in knowing that God has it covered. Also pray for Greg that pain will be minimal and recovery will go well. I thank God for all that he continues to do. He never ceases to amaze me. Where would we be and what hope would we have if he wasn't in our corner. Thank you Lord!!!!!
Greg update
So at about 12:15pm Greg was still waiting to be taken to pre-op. Apparently a few emergency cases were taken ahead of him. He finally got taken to pre-op at 12:30pm. At about 3:00pm he was taken into surgery. 3:25pm the receptionist came out to talk to Matt's mom and said that she was told that the surgery would be the long one. So it looks like he is getting the plate and screws. Bummer :( . Surgery should last another 4-5 hours. Sounds like he won't be out til about 8pm. I'll post more when I know more. Pray for the surgery to go well and for Greg to handle it well. Pray for Kim to have patience and peace. Thank you.
Greg surgery today
Greg will be having his surgery today at about 11:30am or a little later. Please pray that the damage is not too bad and that the surgery will be minimal. Matt and his mom left this morning to drive down to the hospital. I just got a phone call from Matt and they have arrived safely. We don't know yet how long they will be staying down there. Hopefully after the surgery we will know when they expect Greg to be able to come home. I will update again later as I get info, or when I am available, but for sure after the surgery. Thank you in advance for the prayers.

Saturday night update
All the kids and I drove down to see Greg today. We are home now. All went well. Greg is doing pretty good. He has found new areas of soreness today. The surgery will be on Monday but we do not have a time yet. Matt and Greg were able to talk Kim into coming home tonight to get some rest. She is very tired. So is Matt. She is just very weary and it will be nice for her to sleep in her own bed. She didn't want to leave but decided that it would be good for everyone. Hopefully Greg can get some sleep tonight too.
The surgery on Monday will start out as an exploratory surgery to see what the extent of the damage is. If they feel it is stable they will close him up and let it heal on its own. If the damage needs repair, that will be determined then. The surgery could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours. Either way he will have lots of recovery time. Time to heal and do therapy. He will not be able to bear weight for up to 3 months. Please be praying that the damage is not extensive and the healing will be quick.
Please also pray specifically for Kim to have peace in all that is happening. It is a heavy load. Pray that she will lean on the Lord and her family.

Update on Greg
Lastest update on Greg. The docs will not be doing surgery until Monday. We do not have a time yet. They want to give him a little more time to stabilize. He is doing fairly well. The kids and I are leaving in a few minutes to go down to see him. Please pray for our travel. I am not sure at this point if Kim will be staying down there or if she is going to come home for the night. I will post an update at some point later today or tonight to say how he is doing and if we have any more info. Please pray for Nathanial and Makayla. Today has been kinda rough.
Greg Mainhood is in Beaumont Hospital in Royal oaks, MI. His room # is 5628 North. That is all the info I have.

Greg's accident, what happened
Yesterday, at about 2pm, my father-in-law, Matt's stepdad, Greg fell approx 18ft off of a ladder and landed flat on his back. He and his family were cutting down trees in their front yard and one of the pieces that they were cutting started to drop before they expected. (They were doing everything right, ropes and all.) That section of tree swung back and hit Greg enough to throw him off balance. He fell backwards and landed on his back. At 1st he thought the wind had just been knocked out of him. He never lost consciousness, but it took him about 10 min to get his bearings. He wanted to try to roll on his side and get up, but then realized he couldn't stand on his own. This is when 911 was called.
He was transported to the Midland Hosp. The doctor's main concerns on arrival were internal bleeding and spinal injuries. After x-rays and a CT scan we found out that his injuries were: 1 broken vertebra in his lower back, 2 bruised kidneys, 3-5 broken ribs, and a broken hip socket. No other internal injuries and no spinal injuries. Thank you Lord! The next step was to wait for the surgeon to determine if he needed surgery to repair the hip.
The surgeon came in and told Greg, Kim, and Matt that he did need surgery and that he would be transported to Beaumont Hosp in Royal Oaks, MI. Why there, we are not sure. The ambulance would be there in about 45 minutes. WOW! Talk about no time to gather your thoughts and make plans! Matt drove out to Kim and Greg's to pick up the kids and bring them to the hospital so they could see their dad before he left, and have them pack clothes because they were going to come and stay with us so that their mom could go to the hospital where Greg would be. I packed fast and furious for Matt, he was going with his mom, and we got ready to leave for Midland in hopes of seeing Greg before he left and pick up Nathanial and Makayla. Everyone got to the hospital in time to see Greg. That was a blessing.
Greg was transported at about 6:30pm. Matt and Kim went back to Kim's so she could pack and then left for Royal Oak. They got to the hospital a little after 9pm and the trip went well for Greg but he is having quite a bit of pain. The doctors took more x-rays and the family waited to hear if surgery would happen last night. It did not. Kim and Matt finally got to the hotel about 2am for some much needed sleep. They are headed back to the hospital this morning to wait for word about what is next.
I will be posting updates on this site to keep everyone informed. I will also post on Facebook when I update here. We need some prayer for a few things:
-That this morning a surgery time will be determined.
-That the surgery will go well and the doctors will find what needs to be repaired and fix it quickly.
-That Kim and Matt will get a chance to rest.
-That Greg's pain will be minimal.
-That Nathanial and Makayla will have peace of mind.
Thank you ahead of time for all your prayers. I will post updates as soon as I have them.

School's out!
Wow, it has been a long time since I have posted. Where does the time go? Again we have been super busy. As always. How does that happen? I won't give you a long update. Just some pics and couple of videos.
I am so glad school is out for the summer. So are the kids. Kylie started driver's training on Friday. She is also planning on taking up running (she found a friend who is willing to run with her) to get into shape for basketball and will practice all she can. Logan is looking forward to all the bike riding, trampoline jumping, and swimming in the pool he can fit in. He will be getting ready for football. Matt and I will be finishing up a few remodeling projects and have a few trips planned for the family. Should be a fun summer. Can't wait.
This video is of Logan running the obstacle course at his field day. This was his favorite event. He did not place in this event but he got 1st place for the sack race. It was over 90 degrees that day and at the end you can see that he was losing steam. He had a blast though.

Kylie receiving her Board Scholar award. 3rd year in a row. She got cash and a prize.
Logan at Loons game. Coleman schools spirit night.
Matt at the Loons game. Faithfully watching my purse while I take pics. Such a good hubby.
Sunset over the Dow Diamond. So gorgeous. A reminder of how good God truly is.

Logan doing the base run for field day at school. They do this every year near the last day. Very hot out but the kids had some much fun.
Our poor pooch, Opie, being dressed up in his bandana. I'm sure this was against his will. Still so cute!
Charlotte on the roof of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN where they have the duck march, last Sept.
Recent picture of Kylie, Logan, and Opie dog at home.
Matt and Charlotte. What a cute couple. Don't you think?
This video is of Kylie and the Coleman band playing at the Loon's game for Coleman's spirit night. The song is "Sail Away". She is the flute, gray sweatshirt, right up front. Our band is awesome. Lots of areas schools compete on different nights to see who has the most spirit. They are judged and the winning school receives a grant from the Great Lakes Loons. This year Coleman took 1st place!!! Way to go Comets!!!
